Severe Thunderstorm Watch

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing heavy rain.

Potential rainfall rates: 25 mm per hour or higher.
Locations: southern New Brunswick.
Time span: this morning until this evening.

Remarks: Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop over portions of southern New Brunswick today. Localized torrential downpours are possible with these thunderstorms.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

Rainfall Warning in effect for:
Oromocto and Sunbury County
Heavy rain is expected.

Locations: Central and southern parts New Brunswick.

Total rainfall: 40 to 80 mm, with locally higher amounts possible.

Time span: today.

Similar storms in the past have caused:
- localized flooding, especially in poor drainage areas
- road shoulder erosion and washouts

Remarks: A disorganized weather system containing the moisture from remnants of Beryl will continue to affect New Brunswick today.

High Rainfall rates of in excess of 20 mm per hour may occur over some locations, leading to variable rainfall accumulations over short distances. Conditions may change rapidly, with heavy, torrential downpours.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
