Overview

Role

Prepare and administer an Emergency Measures plan for Sunbury-York South Rural Community and identify community safety concerns.

Responsibilities

The committee will provide input and community representation in developing, preparing, and administrating the Emergency Measures Plan. Members will attend meetings, participate in tabletop and simulation exercises if available, and assist in an emergency where applicable. The Committee will identify concerns, collaborate with stakeholders and provide suggestions to the Council to improve Public Safety in the Sunbury-York South Rural Community.

 

Meetings

The Public Safety Committee will meet monthly on the third Monday of the month.

Members

Membership

The Public Safety Committee will consist of a minimum of six members and a maximum of ten members, as well as the CAO (CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER)/Clerk and/or Assistant Clerk, one council member/Director, and six to ten community members.  A committee member who does not uphold their responsibilities or misses more than 25% of meetings without a reasonable explanation will be asked by the Chair to resign from the Committee. If the member refuses to resign, a vote shall be taken on removing the member from the Committee.

As per the SYSRC Procedural Bylaw 1;

The committees will comprise the Members of the Council, the CAO/Clerk, and the Treasurer. Other senior staff will attend to make presentations and answer questions as required.

The Council may establish or abolish committees of the Council. The Council- CAO- department heads or senior staff may appoint, to such committees, members who are qualified voters of the local government.

Public Safety Committee is currently not accepting new members.
