A Tale of Two Wards
William Francis Ganong identified the Maliseet name for Rusagonis as Tesegwan’ik. Settled in 1784, Rusagonis was a farming community with approximately 52 families by 1866. In 1871 Rusagonis and its surrounding district had a population of about 200. In 1904 Rusagonis had 1 post office, 1 store, 1 church and a population of 75.
Beaverdam was settled in 1830 on the South Branch of the Rusagonis Stream. The site was established as a farming community in 1866, with a population of 100; the first post office opened there in 1898.
In 1898 Nasonworth was a farming settlement with 1 post office and a population of 75.
in 1871 Waasis had a population of 125: by 1898 itwas a flag station for the Canadian Pacific Railway and a settlement with a population of 100.
